On the road to becoming an elementary school principal, individuals acquire much of the knowledge and skills they need to do their job effectively during their careers as teachers and graduate school students. However, the learning does not have to stop once these professionals assume the role of principal.

One of the best ways for elementary school principals to continue learning on a daily basis is for them to visit informative websites. Here are five websites they may want to bookmark:

The American Association of School Administrators website
If individuals have been elementary school principals for some time, they are probably familiar with the American Association of School Administrators (AASA). Since 1865, this professional organization has advocated for high-quality public education for students nationwide.

When principals visit the AASA's website, they can find out how they can become one of the more than 13,000 educational leaders who make up this organization. In addition, they can learn about upcoming events, opportunities for continuing education and much more.

EducationWorld
When a website's banner says it is "the educator's best friend," principals know they are in the right place. EducationWorld is designed to be a home for educators on the web and provides them with an opportunity to share ideas with one another. On this website, individuals will find lesson plans, original articles, student software reviews and other information that principals may be able to use to improve their elementary schools.

The National Conference of State Legislatures website
Elementary school principals are responsible for managing their institution's budget and finances. As a result, it is in their best interest to make sure they know the ins and outs of school finance. The National Conference of State Legislatures' website is one place principals can visit to further their knowledge of public education funding, the state's role in education finance and other topics relevant to their line of work.

The US Department of Education's website
Principals are viewed as leaders at the elementary schools they oversee, so they should consider doing what they can to stay up to date on the latest news and developments in the American education sector. The U.S. Department of Education's website provides principals with access to press releases and blog posts that may be of interest to them. In addition, principals should bookmark their state's own department of education website.

The Common Core State Standards website
As an elementary school principal, individuals are responsible for supervising school officials, helping teachers become more effective educators and making sure instructors have access to Common Core-appropriate classroom materials. For this reason, it is essential for principals in states that have adopted the Common Core State Standards to know as much as they can about them. The Common Core's website can help. They never know when staff, parents and members of the local community will look to them for information on the Common Core.
